The FlaQuM Consortium.
The third FlaQuM pillar focuses on learning from innovation and social capital in interhospital collaboratives. Currently, twenty-two Flemish (Belgian) organisations are implementing the three FlaQuM pillars (19 hospitals started in 2022, four hospitals started in 2023 and two new hospitals started in 2024). Of these 22 hospitals, 14 are acute-care hospitals, two rehabilitation are centres and two are psychiatric hospitals. The methods of pillar three is based on the Breakthrough Improvement collaborative method (Institute for Healthcare Improvement). There are four kind of learning and innovation meetings:
- FlaQuM Co-ordinators Intervision Moments (monthly): co-production meetings with the FlaQuM co-ordinators, i.e. the healthcare quality managers of the participating hospitals, are organised monthly to share best practices in quality management and to learn from each other regarding the implementation of the FlaQuM models, tools and instruments.
- FlaQuM Management Board and Steering Committee (3 times a year): this meeting brings the FlaQuM Research Team together with the CEO – CMO – CNO – CQO of the organisations. Within this meeting the overall strategy of FlaQuM is discussed and our collaboration with external advisors and the government is discussed.
- FlaQuM Thematic Intervision Moments (3 times a year): during these meetings specific themes are discussed. Not only the FlaQuM coordinators participate but also experts on the specific topic (i.e. leadership, strategy development, co-design, etc.).
- FlaQuM International Inspiration Sessions (3 times a year): international experts are invited to give key-note lectures on specific aspects of quality vision, implementation or learning. These lectures are streamed in the FlaQuM-Consortium organisations.
Besides these meetings in the FlaQuM-Consortium, an international advisory board of 12 international experts in healthcare quality and patient safety is established to recognise and refine the developed FlaQuM pillars together with the FlaQuM Research Team. The international advisory boards meets twice a year.
During the FlaQuM Peer Challenge, i.e. a peer-to-peer review process of FlaQuM pillar 1, pillar 2 and pillar 3, hospitals will evaluate the use of the FlaQuM models, instruments and tools in another reviewed hospital of the FlaQuM-Consortium. So, this Peer Challenge consists of a FlaQuM hospital that is visited by experts of at least 4 other organisations (FlaQuM Consortium coordinators) and FlaQuM Research Team. The goal of the FlaQuM Peer Challenge is to formulate both the current strengths of the hospitals’ quality management system and the challenges for the upcoming year that might further enhance the maturity of their quality management system.
